Maria island

Our day stated to early to catch the 9am ferry over to the island the price wasn't cheap but on other walkers and friends recommendations we decided it was worth it .
It was hard to tell if we wold get our top of 31 degrees as it was cool in the morning and overcast so we took a kebab each for a warm wrap at lunchtime we cold cook on the BBQ at lunchtime a camelback of cold water a backpack of all our raincoats and another backpack of cameras iPad for maps and snacks along the way.
The trip over was relatively short and only a little choppy the boys and I rode on the top open deck with Shahla and Corinna on the main deck sheltered by some waves .
We arrived at the main jetty at Darlington below the four massive concrete silos once used till the late 1960's by the national Portland cement company , wethen walked past several cape barren geese and into the rangers visitor station inside the commissariat store to work out tide times for the painted cliffs walk and other walks in the area we could do .
Fossil cliffs walk was our first walk a relatively easy two hour walk past old barns filled with machinery of a bygone era then into the cemetery home to several locals including Diego Bennacchis young daughter and the famous New Zealand Maori warrior
