Brekky sorted and us packed up in good time we headed out of the reserve and came across a fairly new magna left by backpackers nearby but no useful parts but such a waste in my opinion from rob ably just a flat tyre it seems .
It wasn't long till we reached Rainbow valley for a couple of walks , one to mushroom rock an interesting wind eroded peice of earth and then back via the clay pan walk .
We had the place all to ourselves which was a bonus.
The place was magic for photos of erosion and colourful rock formations but we opted for not camping her as the flies were mad as and not a lot of shade either.
Back out the same way we came in I pulled intomStyarts well roadhouse to top up and grab ice creams all round then back down 20 Kms along the Stuart .
We came to Hugh river stock route turnoff , opened the gate and headed along the recently graded track towards Mary vale station.
It took us about an hour and a half to do the stock route.
We then called in at Rodinga and the old Ghan railway siding which although newer than the southern ones was in a pretty bad state and the rubbish and crap from the recent Finke desert race was atroshish but. We did manage to rat some timber from the crates that where just left there and we then had a late lunch and some happy snaps .
Another 30 minutes to the station we took the Chambers Pillar historic reserve turnoff .
The track from here was very corrugated and rundown so it took us the better part of two hours to reach camp with probably half an hour to spare before sunset.
We took the scenic walk while the boys climbed the pillar steps and we took pics of Castle rock , the Pillar and the other nearby formations in the setting sun which brought out some magnificent colours.
Then I walked to read the storyboards on the chambers pillar walkway and back for some romance with the mrs as the kids had gone and we enjoyed the tranquility of the setting sun alone .
A latish tea of tomato and tuna pasta then sit around the great fire and talk about our day and wondere about dingoes here.
We all slept soundly this night .
